The trifecta for branding building

Brand building is like baking. You need a list of ingredients and a process to make a good dough but you can’t control how your community is going to react. Three key levers can significantly solidify your brand’s presence while connecting to your audience.

Here are the ingredients that have guided my approach to brand building:

1. Share expertise

Leverage your learnings and experience to help others grow. It’s not about ego, but rather developing your relationship with your audience by providing quality information. In a world with a bombardment of content on all sides, your value-driven insights will delight your community.

Tips for sharing your expertise:

  • Define 2-3 key topics you want to be known for

  • Develop content about these topics

  • Deliver this content to specific audiences

  • Repeat for consistency

    2. Convey authority

Take part in the bigger conversations alongside other experts. This is your chance to give your opinion about industry trends and global issues that are affecting your business and your community. Become a leading voice that people listen to and learn from.

Strategies to enhance authority:

  • Stay on top of the news and trends

  • React in a timely manner to events relevant to your audience

  • Build relationships with journalists, influencers and event organisers

    3. Be collaborative

Amplify your reach by collaborating with other brands. This is called cross-polination e.g. getting exposure to the community of your partner(s). By doing so, you connect with new audiences all while nurturing your brand’s reputation.

Ways to build successful brand collaborations:

  • Make a wishlist of the brands you want to connect with (people and businesses)

  • Set your goals and KPIs

  • Connect with your targeted brands with a proposal

  • (Over)Communicate roles, objectives and tasks throughout the campaign

Building a powerful brand doesn’t happen overnight. By focusing on delivering your expertise, conveying your authority, and developing collaborations, you create a cohesive strategy that resonates and endures. Leverage these three ingredients to elevate your brand and connect more meaningfully with your audience.
